A lion on the loose is sowing fear among the residents of Zulo administrative post in Massingir district, Gaza province.
The animal, which has been moving among communities in the districts of Massingir and Mabalane since last week, is presumed to come from the Limpopo National Park, and has already killed some cattle.
A multi-sectoral team comprising Limpopo National Park rangers, members of the Police for the Protection of Natural Resources and the Environment and hunters was deployed to kill the lion, but was unsuccessful due to the feline’s excellent mobility.
The head of Zulo administrative post, Benito Thomisssene, has urged residents to move around in groups to minimise the chances of being attacked.
Meanwhile, residents are left to mourn the death of their cattle in the climate of fear instilled by the dangerous, marauding feline.
