Mozambique’s national football team the ‘Mambas’ has risen four places occupy 97th place in the latest FIFA ranking.
The list is led by Argentina, who are joined on the podium by Belgium and Colombia, the latter a newcomer to the top three.
Of the Portuguese-speaking countries, Portugal is in eighth place, one below Brazil.
Of the African Portuguese-speaking countries (PALOP), Mozambique is in third place, behind Cape Verde in 49th position and newcomer Equatorial Guinea at 76th. Mozambique occupies the 97th position, Guinea-Bissau 115th and Angola 123rd, level on points with Liberia. Sao Tome and Principe is ranked 152nd.
Timor-Leste has dropped two places and now occupies 177th position.
