The National Road Administration (ANE) this Thursday restored full road traffic on Regional Road number 260 (ER260), which had been interrupted following damage to the structure of the bridge over the Révuè river in Sussundenga district, Manica province.
The accident, on 14 June, involved a heavy cargo vehicle that crashing into part of the bridge’s structure, causing the suspension of traffic on the road between Chimoio with the district headquarters town of Sussundenga. Only people on foot could cross the bridge.
The provincial delegate of the National Road Administration, in the province of Manica, Moisés Dzimba, said that full movement of traffic was restored at around 6:00 a.m..
Repairs took only five days out of the six planned, and vehicles weighing up to 30 tons can now transit the bridge.
“The work consisted of replacing damaged metal components. With this reconstruction, the conditions have been created for the resumption of circulation of vehicles weighing up to 30 tons, as before,” Dzimba explained.
“The repairs cost around six million meticais (around US$95,000), and the contractor assures us that vehicles and goods can now pass over the bridge safely,” he said.
Dzimba urges motorists to respect road signage, in order to avoid similar incidents.

“There are many metal bridges along Regional Road 260. For this reason, we must respect the signs placed on the road. For example, in some places there are signs for vehicles weighing up to 30 tons. Also, 30 kilometres per hour,” he said.
Since the 14th, vehicle circulation had been restricted on this road, especially on the bridge over the Révuè River.
