The Assembly of the Republic will no longer debate the review of the laws of the Police of the Republic of Mozambique and the National Criminal Investigation Service scheduled for consideration today, August 5.
Without giving any reason for the decision, the President of the Assembly of the Republic made the announcement after a closed-door meeting of the standing commission, which delayed the start of today’s session from 10:00 a.m. to 10:35 a.m..

It should be noted that one aspect of the review was the potential creation of a new branch of the Police of the Republic of Mozambique called the Criminal Investigation Branch (RIC), as mentioned by government spokesperson Filimão Suaze after the Council of Ministers meeting on March 12.
This generated public debate, with voices stating that it is not the PRM’s responsibility to investigate crimes, but that SERNIC is responsible for this function, making any such development unconstitutional.
