On a recent visit to the Mozambique Road Network (REVIMO, SA), the Minister of Public Works, Housing and Water Resources, Carlos Mesquita, was visibly satisfied with the notable achievements achieved from 2020 to 2022, especially in emergency and repair works in sections concessioned to this company throughout the country, presented by its chairman, Constantino Gode.
The results include the completion of works on the R453 (Macie-Praia de Bilene), N101 (Macie-Chókwè) and R448 (Chókwè-Macaretane), Haluma bridge, construction of aqueducts, paving of 11 km on the N6, relocation of water mains and repair of the bridge over the Metuchira river, in addition to the innovations recorded at the Dondo and Nhamatanda toll gates, installing solar panel systems for greater energy reliability.
During the presentation to Minister Carlos Mesquita, it was said that, apart from the challenges of degradation of some concession roads, coastal erosion and undue occupation of road reserve areas, REVIMO, SA is rekindling public lighting on Circular, demonstrating resilience and the need to adopt renewable energies.
On the occasion, Minister Mesquita recommended that REVIMO find more efficient platforms to raise awareness among Ring Road users regarding prudent driving, as lighting infrastructure has been destroyed more frequently by public traffic accidents, adding that: “It is necessary to look to the future, they cannot just be carrying out frequent rehabilitation of the same sections, they must find sustainable and resilient ways of responding to their quality and durability.”
The government official also referred to the road business, showing that there is room for investment, with the national private sector being invited to participate in partnership with the government, strengthening and having more national companies included in the process of development of national infrastructure.
REVIMO’s chairman said, in turn, that his institution was looking to the future, with the concessionaire challenged to integrate National Highway Number 2 (N2) into its portfolio, with alternative proposals to decongest National Highway Number 4 (N4). It was also targeting strategic sections such as “N1: Marracuene-Xai-Xai; N7: Vanduzi-Changara; N1: Nampula-Namialo and N12: Namialo-Nacala”.
It should be noted that, currently, the Mozambique Road Network, SA, is responsible for crucial roads, such as the Maputo-Katembe Bridge and the Maputo Circular Roads, N6, R453 (Macie-Praia de Bilene), N101 (Macie-Chókwè ) and R448 (Chókwè-Macaretane), and is now poised to reach still greater heights on the national road scene.
