Five more people, all Mozambican, have died of the coronavirus in the city of Maputo, the Ministry of Health reported yesterday [January 10], alongside a further 578 positive cases countrywide and only 14 recoveries (in Zambézia province). [Read the full MISAU brief, in Portuguese, HERE]
Of the five fatalities, four are men aged 49, 73, 75 and 80 years old, and one a woman aged 73. The deaths were reported on 8 and 9 January, according to a statement from the Ministry of Health, with the patients dying as a result of the “worsening of their health status during the hospitalisation period in hospital units in the city of Maputo”.
Mozambique n Sunday reported 578 new positives cases, of which 293 in the city of Maputo and 69 in Nampula.
“Of the new suspected cases tested, 1,847 were negative and 578 were positive for Covid-19. Of the new cases reported today [Sunday, January 10], 536 are individuals of Mozambican nationality and 13 are foreigners. Of these, six cases are individuals of American, Spanish, Canadian, Belgian, Chinese and German nationality, two are Portuguese five are South African. There are 29 cases of nationalities yet to be identified. All new cases reported today result from local transmission,” the MISAU brief reads.
A total of 968 patients have been hospitalised since the outbreak of the disease in the country, and 192 have died (155 in Maputo city).
Mozambique has to date recorded a cumulative total of 21,939 positive Covid-19 cases, of which 21,623 are local transmitted and 316 imported. A total of 17,535 patients are deemed to have fully recovered.
Mozambique currently has 4,208 active cases of Covid-19.
