The National Migration Service (SENAMI) announced yesterday that it had repatriated 3,072 foreigners by September this year, 35 percent more than last year.
SENAMI spokeswoman Cira Fernandes told a press conference that the repatriations were in response to illegal immigration, staying illegally in national territory and loss of identification and residence documents.
With 2,061 cases, Tanzania topped the log, followed by Malawi, 302, and Ethiopia, 199.
Cabo Delgado in northern Mozambique repatriated 67 percent of those concerned, followed by Tete with 13 percent and Nampula with 8 percent.
The SENAMI spokeswoman said that the increase in repatriated foreigners was due to the intensification of inspection actions, with 1,829 carried out this year against 762 between January and September last year.
