Renamo leader Ossufo Momade says that the minimum civil service wage should be 14,000 meticais a month. The Renamo leader said that the lack of fair wages contributes to increasing corruption in the state.
Readjustments made by the government within the scope of the Single Salary Table (TSU). raised the minimum civil service wage to 8,000 meticais. But the president of Renamo feels the amount still does not meet the high cost of living.
“It’s a shame for Mozambique – even those which they increased from 3,000 to 8,000 meticais is a shame,” Momade said during a rally in Zambézia province.
The Renamo leader says that, in his party’s view, the amount should be at least doubled. “We thought the minimum wage would be 14,000 meticais. How is an employee going to have the motivation to work?” he asked.
Momade insisted that the state must pay fair wages in order to combat corruption in the civil service.
“How will a nurse be motivated to treat our children and ourselves? This is what gives rise to the corruption found in all state organs,” he asked.
The president of the country’s second largest political party is currently visiting Zambézia province.
