Mozambique: Chapo inaugurates new INATRO headquarters
“The peace of Mozambicans can not wait any longer,” the head of the Renamo parliamentary bench declared on Monday in parliament , insisting on approval of decentralization measures and the resolution of pending military issues this quarter.
The decentralization package will allow for the appointment of Renamo governors in provinces where the party won most votes in the 2014 elections, while military issues include the integration of Renamo men into the government Defence and Security Forces.
“We would like this house to approve a legislative package on decentralization and defence and security issues seriously and quickly, and in this first quarter,” head of Renamo parliamentary bench Ivone Soares said.
In her speech, quoted by MediaFax, Soares said that her party was genuinely committed to the restoration of effective peace in Mozambique, and that she hoped that the Nyusi government would also find it in its interest to complete the process.
“We want to participate in the 2018 elections with the decentralization package already approved by this great house,” said Soares, whose party believes it will leverage development in the country.
The present session of the Assembly of the Republic ends at the start of May.
