Mozambique: First Lady advocates close partnership with Merck Foundation - AIM

The Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation Maria Manuela dos Santos Lucas on Thursday (10-07) reiterated Mozambique’s commitment to continue advancing the implementation of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).
Delivering her speech at the 47th Ordinary Session of the Executive Council of the African Union Member States in which she was participating, in Malabo, the capital of Equatorial Guinea, Lucas assured that “all conditions are being created for the implementation of the AfCFTA, with the intention of promoting intra-regional and intra-continental trade”.
She congratulated the Secretariat of the African Continental Free Trade Area for its excellent work, which is reflected in the increasing number of countries joining the initiative.
Minister Maria Manuela Lucas witnessed at the event the election of the Commissioner for the Department of Economic Development, Tourism, Trade, Industry, Mining (ETTIM) of the African Union, Francisca T. Balope of Equatorial Guinea; the Commissioner for the Department of Education, Science, Technology and Innovation (ESTI). of the African Union, Gaspard Banyankibona of Burundi; and of five members of the AU Advisory Council against Corruption.
During the 47th Ordinary Session of Executive Council, discussions were focused on the progress of the AU’s 2025 theme, “Justice for Africans and People of African Descent Through Reparations”. Ministers reviewed reports from the ministerial committee on scale assessment and the committee of Fifteen Ministers of Finance(F15), as well as updates on African candidatures within the international system, the implementation of Agenda 2063 and, challenges related to the ratification of OAU/AU treaties.
Following the Executive Council meeting, the Seventh Mid-Year Coordination Meeting (7MYCM) of the African Union Bureau of Assembly, will take place on July 13. The assembly meeting will bring together Chairpersons of the Regional Economic Communities, Regional Mechanisms and AU member states. The MYCM will assess the current status of continental integration and coordinate efforts to expedite the integration process through a defined division of labour and enhanced collaboration among the Union, RECs, RMs and Member States.
