Mozambican international footballer Reinildo Mandava was the target of an attack on the EN1 near Localidade de Zero, Mopeia district, Zambézia, on Thursday evening (June 17), official sources told Diário da Zambézia, cited in a Noticias report titled “Reinildo escapes death in Zero”.
According to the same sources, Renildo Mandava was on his way to Morrumbala to attend to a family matter, but stopped for lunch in Caia, Sofala province. It is thought that it is from that point that his assailants started to follow him.
Shots were fired at Renildo Mandava’s vehicle as it arrived at the Zero locality, but without causing injury, the same source adds.
Miramar meanwhile reports that the police are investigating whether Renildo’s vehicle was in fact hit by bullets or stones. “A ballistics team is carefully analysing the perforations in the glass to assess what actually happened,” a post on Miramar’s Facebook page reads, continuing: “Other sources told Miramar that, in the area where the vehicle was attacked, Sambalendo, a group of criminals armed with machetes sometimes throw stones at vehicles at night and rob motorists. This information is being followed up on by the authorities and Miramar will update.”
Miramar says that Reinildo was going to Morrumbala, in Zambezia province, to attend the wedding of Gildo Vilankulos, who plays in Amora Futebol Clube.
According to our sources, Reinildo was to spend the night at the police station, because he was traumatized, and on Friday would carry on to Quelimane and from there probably return to France.
