Repair works began yesterday on Avenida Josina Machel, between the Machava-Km15 and Matola-Gare neighborhoods, with the aim of improving the road conditions and facilitating the mobility of people and goods.
The intervention focuses on the most critical points of the road, where the asphalt is being removed and subsequently resurfacing and installation of gutters to drain rainwater will be carried out.
In less critical areas, potholes will be filled, according to information from the National Roads Administration (ANE).
Transporters are satisfied with the measure, since the rehabilitation of this road corridor will provide better conditions, reducing frequent breakdowns, traffic accidents and the stagnation of rainwater in craters.
Júlio Matateu, a semi-public passenger transport operator, hopes that the improvements will be lasting and that the process will not take “too long”.
“We were forced to suspend activities several times due to the poor road conditions. We have finally been heard! We hope that the works are not a temporary solution, but something lasting,” he said.
Helena Chiangule, a resident of Machava-Km15, reported that residents suffer from the shortening of routes in this residential area, where semi-public transport operators justified the interruption of trips due to the precariousness of the road.
“I am satisfied. Who knows, maybe this way we will stop having to travel long distances due to shortened routes, potholes and stagnant water on the road. We ask that the works be carried out along the entire length of the avenue,” he said.
The delegate of the National Roads Administration (ANE) in Maputo province, Dedy Mendes, explained that the works are part of the routine maintenance program and could last until next November.
“Maintenance is being carried out at the most critical points. The entire length of the road will be rehabilitated in stages until completion in the second half of the year,” he concluded.
