The Municipal Council of Beira, the capital of Sofala central province, needs one million Euros (75 million meticais) to rehabilitate and modernize the city’s landmark Casa dos Bicos.
The announcement was made this Monday (July 19) on Radio Mozambique’s ‘Breakfast’ show by Beira mayor Albano Carige, who said that discussions concerning the project were underway with a number of partners.
The iconic building is located within the city’s Green Park, which was officially handed over to the city last week, after its inauguration last year.

Mayor Carige said that the Casa do Bicos was an item of cultural heritage and a major attraction for the city, and its rehabilitation was therefore urgent.
Regarding the management of the Beira Green Park, Carige said that a municipality body would oversee the performance of contracts to be signed with private parties.
