Mozambique registers 0.19% price increase after four months of deflation – INE

Mozambique registered an increase in prices in August after four consecutive months of deflation, the National Institute of Statistics (INE) has announced.
August ended with monthly inflation at 0.19%, according to the Consumer Price Index bulletin released on Friday. Year-on-year inflation stood at 5.61%, up from 5.48% in July.
The 12-month average inflation stood at 4.61%, its highest value since October, 2018.
In the short and medium term, Mozambique’s central bank forecasts that “inflation will remain in single digits, despite the prospects of rising food and oil prices on the international market,” it announced in a statement.
Mozambique ended 2020 with inflation at 3.52%.
Mozambique’s Consumer Price Index is calculated from the price of a basket of goods and services, with data collected in the cities of Maputo, Beira and Nampula.
