Mozambique: CTA calls for new dynamism in agriculture

The Council of Ministers on Tuesday considered and approved the dissolution of the Baixo Limpopo Irrigation Company, and revoked Decree 5/2010 of March 23.
In its 28th Ordinary Session, the Cabinet approved the “Decree that determines the dissolution of RBL, EP, and transfers the management of its irrigation to the National Irrigation Institute (INIR, IP).
The move will strengthen coordination with national agricultural policies, ensuring technical support for 21,000 producers and reducing dependence on long-term government subsidies by diversifying revenue sources.
Mozambique’s National Institute of Irrigation )INIR) a public institution with its headquarters in Maputo, created under Decree no. 9/2012, of 11 May, of the Council of Ministers and endowed with legal personality with technical and administrative autonomy.
INIR is a Ministry-supervised institution that oversees the area of agriculture and aims to efficiently and sustainably plan, develop, exploit and manage land and water resources for agricultural production.
Also at yesterday’s session, the Council of Ministers reviewed information on: the final report on the timeline for the creation of the Development Bank of Mozambique and the start of operations of the Economic Recovery Fund (FRE, FP) and the of the Mutual Guarantee Fund; the preliminary results of the food security assessment in the post-shock period 2025 and the 2019-24 Balance Sheet; preparations for the September 7th Victory Day festivities; and measures regarding the production and sale of high-alcohol beverages.
