President Filipe Nyusi addressed the nation this evening. The head of state announced the reopening of beaches, public swimming pools and the resumption of pre-school education, within the framework of the gradual easing of the restrictive measures imposed to combat the new coronavirus in the country.
The new deconfinement measures, announced a few moments ago, include changing curfew times which will now be from 11 p.m. to 4 am, , in force in all cities in Mozambique.
The main measures announced today are:
1. The resumption of pre-school education is authorised;
2. Authorisation of training for teams and championships;
3. Large, medium-sized, multi-purpose gymnasiums are allowed to open, not exceeding 40 and 20 percent of maximum capacity. Small gyms remain closed;
4. Bottle stores may open from 9 am to 5 pm from Monday to Saturday, must remain closed on Sundays, on holidays or on special holidays [”tolerância de ponto'” days];
5. The validity of specific expired documents is extended until June 30, 2021;
6. Issuance of business and work visas resumes;
7. State events are now allowed to have up to 150 participants;
8. Religious services, conferences and meetings are now limited to a maximum of 75 people in closed spaces, and should not exceed 40% of the maximum capacity of the venue. In outdoor events, up to 150 people are allowed;
9. Maximum number of 20 to 30 persons on wakes.
10. Pools may open at 30% of the capacity.
11. Mandatory curfew: from 11 p.m. to 4 a.m..
12. Restaurants may cose at 9 p.m..
13. Access to beaches for strolling and bathing is allowed, but prohibition on drinking beverages and gatherings continues.
Filipe Nyusi stressed that “the pandemic is far from over,” and one should therefore not forget the basic preventive measures of COVID-19, with emphasis on the use of the mask and social distance.
