Mozambique’s economy registered its poorest growth in the last 10 years in the 2016 second quarter, according to the latest figures from the National Institute of Statistics (INE).
As already foreseen by many entities, including the government, which cut its own estimates, economic growth in 2016 is expected to be the lowest in a last decade.
The latest INE estimates, quoted by O País, show that the economy has slowed down dramatically in the second and third quarters of this year, against the trend of the last 10 years and with no signs of improvement.
From July to September, the gross domestic product indicator of economic activity grew by 3.7 percent, after posting 3.4 percent growth in the second quarter. According to the INE, these quarterly growth levels are the lowest in the last 10 years.
