The Aga Khan Academy, Maputo is proud to announce outstanding results for its graduating class of 2025, setting a new benchmark for excellence. This year’s International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Programme results represent the highest achievement since the Academy’s inception.
Within this graduating class, 100% of the students who entered for the IB Diploma awarded it. Notably, 10 students achieved a bilingual diploma, which signifies not only their fluency in two languages but their studies in literature. A significant number of students demonstrated exceptional academic progress, with 6 students scoring 38 points or higher, and 4 students achieving 40 points or more. The highest score attained was an impressive 43 out of 45.
These results underscore the Academy’s commitment to continuous improvement and academic excellence. The mean score of all candidates at The Aga Khan Academy, Maputo for 2025 was 33.74, representing a significant increase from 30.1 in 2024 and 27.9 in 2023. For comparison, the world mean score of all candidates in 2025 was 30.58.
“It is with a great deal of pride that I share the results of this year’s IB Diploma,” said Roy White, Head of Academy. “Our graduating class of 2025 has truly set a new benchmark for excellence, representing the highest achievement in our history. These grades will ensure that our students can now take up their offers and begin their next educational journey to advance their development as leaders and learners.”
The Academy acknowledges the collective effort, professionalism, and dedication demonstrated by its staff, including dorm parents, Junior School teachers, Senior School subject teachers, and AKS coaches. Their unwavering guidance and support have been instrumental in enabling students to achieve these excellent grades. It also acknowledges the important role of parents, and above all the resilience and dedication of its students.
This graduating class has already received offers from universities across the world, with several students granted full or very large scholarships. Some of the universities include University of Dallas (Texas), the University of Northern British Columbia (Canada), the Hotel Institute Montreux (Switzerland), among others. These exceptional results will enable them to pursue their higher education goals and continue their journey as future leaders.

About the Aga Khan Academy
The Aga Khan Academy offers the International Baccalaureate curriculum, where its youngest students study in both Portuguese and English. The Academy also offers a residential program for students, providing students from the various provinces of Mozambique, as well as international students, the opportunity to study at this centre of educational excellence. Access criteria are based on the student’s merit, talent and leadership potential. The Academy’s long-term vision is to train Mozambicans to lead businesses and communities.
The Aga Khan Academy has been operating since 2013. It currently has 435 students enrolled – from kindergarten level (from 3 years old) to level 12 (18 years old) – from 22 nationalities, with 98 students studying on a residential basis. Of the Academy’s 435 students – 62% are Mozambican. The Aga Khan Academy offers a comprehensive financial support program, through which 57% of students receive scholarships.
Linked to its rigorous academic programme the guiding principles of the Aga Khan Academies, involve five crucial strands in the curriculum: Ethics, Pluralism, Economy for Development, Cultures, Governance and Civil Society.
The campus comprises more than 36,000 square meters of built area and is situated on 22 hectares.
The Aga Khan Academy’s Professional Development Centre was established in 2090. The Centre offers professional development programs for educators, focusing on content acquisition, pedagogical skills, teaching techniques, interactive learning and student-centred teaching methodologies. For 15 years, the Professional Development Centre has trained 5,600 public school educators and headmasters.
About the Aga Khan Development Network
The Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN) is an international, developmental, and non-denominational organization. It is present in 30 countries. It currently coordinates around 1,000 programmes and institutions, some of which are over 100 years old. It employs approximately 96,000 people, the vast majority of whom are from developing countries themselves. In Mozambique AKDN works through the Aga Khan Foundation, the Aga Khan Schools and the Aga Khan Fund for Economic Development (Tourism Promotion Services and Industry Promotion Services). In Mozambique, the AKDN employs around 2,000 people, 97% of whom are Mozambican and 67% of whom are women.
