A plague of rats is devastating the corn crop and threatening the second agricultural season in the Caia district of Sofala.
The rat plague began almost a month ago, just as the corn crop was maturing.
According to farmers, several fields were quickly devoured by the rodents.
The deputy director of the District Economic Activities Service in Caia, Benjamim Guruate, told Radio Moçambique that a survey was being prepared to determine the crop area affected by the rat plague and the damage caused.
