The government of Rapale district in Nampula has urged producers to continue to increase the size of their farms while waiting for the rains, so that they can sow without unnecessary risk.
Rapale district plans to cultivate 70,000 hectares of land to produce 415,000 tons of various products, an increase of more than 5,000 tons compared to the last harvest.
Rapale’s director of economic activities, Cândido Waluto, said that, because of climate change, farmers need to pay attention to weather forecasts and not rush into planting seeds early and losing them.
Before it rains, Waluto stressed, producers should continue to increase their cultivation fields, improve production techniques and acquire new ones via extension agents.
Cândido Waluto, said that work in the fields was being carried out not only with short-handled hoes, but also with government- and private-owned tractors.
