“Calamity”. This is how the residents of Maputo, Matola, Boane describe the scenario they have been experiencing since yesterday, due to torrential rains, Miramar reports. There are no recent memories of harmful effects such as those currently experienced. From the city center to the interior neighbourhoods, the scenario we live in is already one of disaster.
In the centre of Maputo, teams of reporters from Miramar found flooded streets, poor availability of public transport and delays to work, even school. Inside the neighbourhoods, there are reports of deaths by drowning and electrocution.
Erosion separates streets, while in other neighbourhoods flooding makes circulation impossible.
There are families already besieged.

In Matola, neighbourhoods such as Nkobe, Ndlavela, Liberdade the residents are powerless to stop the force of the waters.
In Matola municipality there was a collision between a train and semi-collective passenger transport. The poor visibility caused by the rain is also indicated as a probable cause.
Boane is ,perhaps, the most critical point. The road connecting Matola-Rio and Vila de Boane, is cut. The connection between these two points is made by a piece of road that still stands. It is capable of giving in at any moment. The police have been regulating traffic since last night. On site, our team found that there were vehicles that remained immobilized for more than four hours.
The Umbeluzi river is also full. Saturated with rainwater falling upstream (South Africa and Eswatini) and in the national territory. The river is overflowing and the boats are being activated again. Trucks caught in the middle of the road had to stop. There is a risk of them falling with goods. Speaking of vehicles, others were almost swallowed. There are no reports of victims, but there are those who already speak of floods.
Miramar teams are on the ground working to bring various information about the heavy rains.
They have brought these two reports below:
