The Mozambican government recently called for massive participation by all citizens in the celebrations of the 50th anniversary of the country’s independence on 25 June 1975.
The “flame of national unity”, lit by President Daniel Chapo on Mozambican Women’s Day, in Nangade district, Cabo Delgado is now passing from hand to hand across all the country’s provinces, until it reaches Maputo’s Machava stadium on 25 June.
It was at the Machava stadium that the country’s first president, Samora Machel, declared Mozambican independence half a century ago.
