The district headquarters of Quissanga and Ibo, coastal and island areas of Cabo Delgado respectively, have been without national grid electricity supply for around two months.
The circumstance was confirmed by the director of the Operational Area of Electricity of Mozambique (EDM), Hermínio Assamo, on Wednesday of last week (29-05) during a session of the Cabo Delgado provincial executive council led by Governor Valige Tauabo.
According to Ássamo, EDM is taking steps, with the assistance of Mozambique’s Defence and Security Forces (FDS), to re-establish electricity supply in the two district headquarters.
“As you know, security conditions do not allow EDM to move technicians in on their own. There is work that must be done to restore the electrical current, which involves cutting down trees in the forest that may have damaged electrical cables. We are coordinating with the FDS and will soon move in a team,” Assamo said.
