A pedestrian bridge over the Ivagalane River, which was about to be officially handed over to the population of Quelimane, suffered a partial collapse last week.
The project , financed by development partners and carried out by Quelimane Municipal Council, was considered an important solution for the transit of people and goods in the region.
People living near the river interviewed this Tuesday (31-03) by RádioPaz had various opinions about the causes of the incident.
While some attribute the collapse to supernatural causes, such as the possible recent killing of two snakes in the area, others believe that the force of the water was the main factor.
All those interviewed however expressed the hope that a new bridge would be built, but of better quality and therefore avoiding the problems faced by the structure that failed.
This is not the first bridge to occupy the site; previously, there was a metal bridge.
