Police of the Republic of Mozambique (PRM) in Nampula last weekend seized a total of 95 kg of hard drugs hidden in the false bottom of a minibus trailer in Murrupula district.
According to a police spokesman in the country’s most populous province, the drugs consisted of 50 packages of methamphetamine and 39 packages of heroin, disguised as bags of coffee and sweets.
Zacharias Nacute confirmed that the driver of the vehicle had evaded capture, and that steps were being taken to ascertain the provenance of the seized cargo. A Mozambican citizen was arrested in connection with the case, but is refusing to speak.
Nampula is one of the largest drug corridors in the country. In January, 61 kg of heroin and 5 kg of methamphetamine were seized in Nacala -Porto. In February, 6 kg of drugs seized at the Port of Nacala disappeared from the authorities’ safe-keeping.
