The General Police Command confirmed yesterday that the man shot in Nkobe in Matola municipality on Wednesday night, is in fact a police officer assigned to the Rapid Intervention Unit (UIR) where he served as head of the Reconnaissance Division.
The assault took place on the public highway early on Wednesday evening, when more than 50 shots were fired at the vehicle in which the citizen was travelling. Up until the afternoon of the following day, the PRM Provincial Command in Maputo told the press that it still did not know the identity of the victim who lost his life at the scene of the shooting.
In a statement dated this Sunday and made public in the early afternoon on the General Command’s social media, the PRM confirmed what was already circulating on social media minutes after the crime occurred, that the victim was a PRM agent, complaining about the attacks made on the corporation for not confirming the victim’s identity earlier.
