Mozambican Prime Minister Benvinda Levi has invited Japanese businesspeople to boost their investment in Mozambique , especially in the extractive industry.
According to Levi, who was speaking on Monday in the Japanese city of Osaka, as part of the Mozambique-Japan economic forum, held on the sidelines of the celebration of Mozambique Day at Expo 2025, “the recent entry of large Japanese companies in the oil and gas sector in Mozambique is an important factor in encouraging the establishment of more companies in the country, which will help to increase and diversify the investment portfolio of structuring projects in Mozambique.”
“We therefore invite and encourage Japanese businesspeople, and others present at this event, to capitalize on the investment and business potential and capabilities that exist in Mozambique, especially in the areas of agribusiness, industry, energy, infrastructure, mineral resources and tourism”, she said.
The Prime Minister believes that Japan has been a strategic partner for Mozambique, providing support in social sectors such as health and education, but also participating in major economic investments.
“In our cooperation with Japan, we would like to highlight some structuring actions with a major impact on Mozambican development, such as: the training of human resources, the rehabilitation and modernization of the port of Nacala, the construction of a combined cycle natural gas power station in Maputo, and Japanese participation in the exploitation of liquefied natural gas, in area 1 of the Rovuma Basin,” she said.
She added that Mozambique is at Expo Osaka 2025 with an interest in establishing partnerships for the transfer of technology. “We are hopeful that during EXPO Osaka 2025, in addition to the interaction and exchange of experience in matters of development and innovation, we will sign commitments and agreements that will make it possible to strengthen cooperation in the areas of science, technology and innovation, as well as extending trade and investment relations on a mutually beneficial basis”, she said.
