Mozambique’s Prime Minister Maria Benvinda Levi will pay a working visit to the People’s Republic of China from October 12th to 14th, at the invitation of President Xi Jinping.
Representing the President of the Republic, Daniel Chapo, Benvinda Levi will participate in the Global Leaders’ Meeting on Women as part of the celebration of the 30th anniversary of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action.
The conference will assess the implementation of the various instruments adopted over the years to promote gender equality.
On the sidelines of the conference, the prime minister is expected to meet Xi Jinping and Ding Xuexiang, Vice Premier of China, and will hold further meetings with representatives of Chinese financial institutions and the Mozambican community residing in that country, among others.
China’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun told a press conference on Thursday (October 9) that “China will co-host with UN Women the Global Leaders’ Meeting on Women together in Beijing from October 13 to 14”.
“The meeting will bring parties together to renew the spirit of the Fourth World Conference on Women in Beijing, accelerate the implementation of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action, provide new impetus for promoting gender equality globally and the all-round development of women, and jointly build a community with a shared future for humanity. President Xi Jinping will attend the opening ceremony of the meeting and deliver a keynote speech. Dozens of heads of state and government, leaders of parliament, deputy prime ministers, ministerial-level officials, heads of international organizations and friends from around the world will attend the meeting. We look forward to working with the international community to make this meeting a great success and set it up as another milestone in the history of the development of women’s cause globally,” Guo Jiakun said.
“This year marks the 80th anniversary of the founding of the United Nations and the 30th anniversary of the Fourth World Conference on Women organized by the UN, which was held in Beijing. The Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action was adopted at the conference 30 years ago, which became a milestone in the development of women’s cause globally. In 2020. President Xi Jinping attended the High-Level Meeting of the UN General Assembly on the twenty-fifth anniversary of the Fourth World Conference on Women via video link and delivered an important speech, in which he proposed to convene another Global Leaders’ Meeting on Women in 2025,” the spokesperson explained.
