The President of the Republic, Filipe Nyusi, starts a working visit to the Republic of Finland this Tuesday, in response to the invitation made by his Finnish counterpart, Sauli Niinistö.
On this trip to Finland, the Head of State is accompanied by the Ministers of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, Verónica Macamo Dlhovo; Mineral Resources and Energy, Carlos Zacarias; Education and Human Development, Carmelita Namashulua; Deputy Minister of Industry and Commerce, Ludovina Bernardo; plus members of staff of the Presidency of the Republic and other state institutions.
In addition to the presidential delegation, a Mozambican business mission will participate in a joint business forum on Thursday.
On Wednesday, the Head of State will hold official talks with his Finnish counterpart on the political, economic and social situation of the two countries, the Southern region, the African and European continents and the world in general, with the emphasis on the political, financial, energy and food crises that are currently affecting the world.
During the talks, the two leaders will address the implementation of Mozambique’s Disarmament, Demobilization and Reintegration (DDR) process, the fight against terrorism and the humanitarian assistance provided to the displaced in Cabo Delgado, as well as the strengthening of the country’s resilience to face the consequences of climate change.
A visit to the Finnish parliament and a meeting with Finnish Prime Minister Sanna Mirella Marin are also scheduled.
The President of the Republic will also visit enterprises of socio-economic, cultural and scientific interest, as well as participating in the Mozambique-Finland Business Forum, which aims to explore business opportunities, boost trade and attract investment.
The Head of State’s visit aims to showcase Mozambique’s potential in areas such as industry, energy, agriculture, education, and others deemed crucial to the country’s development.
Diplomatic relations between Mozambique and Finland date from July, 1975, and reflect the good political, economic and social relationships, which both parties intend to deepen and consolidate.
President Nyusi’s visit is part of strengthening relations of friendship and cooperation, and the consolidation of political and economic diplomacy, as well as the promotion of economic and commercial relations between the private sector of the two countries.
Currently, Finland’s strategic objectives in Mozambique focus on development cooperation.
According to its Strategy for 2021-2024, Finland intends to support Mozambique in building peace and conflict prevention, investing in youth and gender equality, as well as strengthening institutions and promoting economic partnerships.
