The Mozambican government plans six state visits by the President of the Republic in 2026, including to Angola, China, and Russia, and the signing of five international agreements.
In the area of international cooperation, the Economic and Social Plan and State Budget (PESOE) for 2026, currently under review in parliament, outlines six state visits – to Canada, Botswana, Angola, Russia, China, and Vietnam.
These will take place “within the scope of strengthening and deepening the relations of brotherhood, friendship, solidarity, and cooperation between peoples and countries, as well as mobilising financing to enable the national development agenda,” elaborates the document regarding the state visits of President Chapo in the second year of his term.
The document also mentions the signing of five legal instruments and strategic partnerships in 2026 “within the framework of international cooperation, as well as the mobilisation of the Mozambican diaspora to contribute to the country’s development.”
The opening of another diplomatic mission, with a consulate-general, is also planned for next year, “as part of the expansion of the network of Diplomatic and Consular Missions of the Republic of Mozambique in the world.”
Daniel Chapo was sworn in as the fifth President of Mozambique on 15 January and has made two state visits this year – to the neighbouring countries of Tanzania and Eswatini – in addition to working visits to Malawi, Spain, Rwanda, Algeria, and Portugal. Last week, he also visited Switzerland and Zambia, and on Sunday began a five-day visit to the United States.
The 6th Portuguese-Mozambican Summit is scheduled to take place in Portugal on 8–9 December this year, with the President expected to attend.
