The President of the Republic, Filipe Nyusi, has received a message from His Holiness Pope Francis in anticipation of World Peace Day, celebrated on January 1, 2025.
In the message, Pope Francis highlights that, in the upcoming Jubilee Year, World Peace Day will be observed under the theme: “Forgive Us Our Trespasses, Grant Us Your Peace.”
The Holy Father emphasizes that this theme calls on everyone to face together humanity’s numerous challenges for survival with hope.
To chart a path toward peace, the Holy Father recommends three actions to world leaders: the forgiveness of international debt, the abolition of the death penalty, and the establishment of a global fund to definitively eradicate hunger.
Pope Francis concludes his message by inviting everyone to “disarm their hearts” through simple gestures such as a smile, friendship, fraternal gaze, sincere listening, and selfless service. In his words, “We are all brothers and sisters journeying together in the same world”.
