Mozambique and Eswatini strengthen parliamentary cooperation

The President of the Republic, Filipe Jacinto Nyusi, received yesterday, August 12, 2020, in the Office of the Presidency of the Republic, the Letters of Credential from the High Commissioner of the United Republic of Tanzania to the Republic of Mozambique, Phaustine Martin Kasike.
Speaking on the occasion, Mozambique’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, Verónica Macamo, pointed out that Mozambique and Tanzania have deep ties of brotherhood going back to the times of the national liberation struggle, which have been the foundation for the excellent cooperation obtaining between the two peoples and countries.
“The President of the Republic expressed his satisfaction at the appointment of the new High Commissioner of Tanzania to Mozambique, [expecting it] to catapult to a new level the relations of friendship, cooperation and solidarity that have always been present between the two countries and peoples,” Minister Macamo.
According to the minister, cooperation between Mozambique and Tanzania is extensive, and is based on the General Bilateral Cooperation Agreement signed in 1977, which mentions areas such as foreign affairs, defence and security, migration, border demarcation, former combatants, justice, agriculture, tourism, industry and commerce, mineral resources and energy, education, culture, transport and communications, public works and housing, health, de-mining and communities.
“We are confident that the new High Commissioner will catapult relations between the two countries to a new level, looking at the incumbent’s experience, with a view to improving coordination of positions on defending common and SADC interests. We will also address the issue of valuing and recovering sites, properties and historical monuments from the armed struggle for national liberation that make up our heritage, and boosting the areas of commerce and industry, including holding international fairs in both countries.”
The President of the Republic had also emphasised the importance of more and better economic cooperation, the head of Mozambican diplomacy said.
Another approach mentioned by the Minister for Foreign Affairs will be the integrated management of water resources shared by Rovuma River communities, and also of natural resources and cross-border conservation areas, including forest resources.
“We are expecting that the presentation of these Letters of Credential will result in innovation, so that the relations of friendship, cooperation and solidarity between our two countries and peoples go from strength to strength,” the minister concluded.
