President Nyusi says he will not leave Mozambique in the near future, but will focus on the decentralisation process and the demilitarisation of Renamo’s residual forces. He will not rest until Mozambicans enjoy lasting peace, he said.
Speaking at the Mozambican Police Force’s 43rd anniversary, the president said that peace could not be mortgaged, because it was an unconditional right.
Nyusi believes that the defence and security forces also have a crucial role to play in achieving peace.
Regarding the police anniversary, President Nyusi argued that the police must be able to respond to the citizens’ wishes fight the current crime wave.
The defence and security forces say that, despite the current surge in criminal cases, there has been an improvement since last year.
