The president of the Supreme Court of Mozambique, Adelino Muchanga, has been reappointed for another five years by head of state Filipe Nyusi, according to information released today by the Presidency of the Republic.
The presidency states that Adelino Muchanga’s reappointment was made after hearing from the Superior Council of the Judiciary.
“The reappointment of Adelino Muchanga to the position of president of the Supreme Court is made by the head of state, the period legally established in number 1 of article 53 of Law number 24/2007, of August 20, having elapsed,” the presidency explains.
That article of judicial law lays down that the president and vice-president of the Supreme Court “are appointed by the President of the Republic, for a renewable five-year term”, and that the act of appointment “is subject to ratification by the Assembly of Republic”.
Adelino Manuel Muchanga, who is 50 years old, has been president of the Supreme Court of Mozambique since 2014, having already been reappointed by President Nyusi in 2019.
