The President of the Republic, Daniel Chapo, encouraged the non-governmental organization World Vision this Thursday to continue strengthening and expanding its interventions in the areas of health, nutrition, education, water and child protection. Chapo also called for programs with greater impact, such as school feeding, to cover more provinces in the country.
The appeal was made during an audience granted to the organization’s Regional Director for Southern Africa, Matthew Pickard, at the Presidency of the Republic, when the NGO reaffirmed its commitment to the development of Mozambique, highlighting the results achieved over its 41 years of operation in the country.
“The meeting was to congratulate the Government of Mozambique on the occasion of its independence anniversary next week, and also because we are receiving a visit from our Regional Director for Southern Africa, who works not only with Mozambique, but also with eight other countries here in Southern Africa,” explained World Vision’s National Director, Maria Carolina da Silva, in statements to the press at the end of the hearing.
The National Director also reinforced the organization’s role as a partner of the State in initiatives with community impact.
According to the official, World Vision has been developing projects on several fronts, with a special focus on health, water and sanitation, education and nutrition.
“We recently returned from a visit to Gaza, where we visited water and sanitation projects, education projects, health and nutrition projects and, within the health project, malaria reduction projects,” he said.
During the hearing, the Head of State recognized the organization’s contribution, especially in the provinces of Nampula and Zambézia, where World Vision develops school feeding programs.
“The President of the Republic alluded to the fact that he was already familiar with the work of World Vision and also congratulated it on its work in providing school meals, which is mainly carried out in Nampula and Zambézia, and also on reducing malaria rates,” said Maria da Silva.
The Mozambican statesman also encouraged the organization to expand the scope of its actions to other regions. “In fact, we shared that we operate in the provinces of Gaza, Tete, Zambézia, Nampula and Cabo Delgado, but the President spoke about the need, above all, for the school feeding program to be expanded to other provinces,” said the National Director.
In response, World Vision expressed its willingness to study the feasibility of such expansion, in conjunction with national and international partners.
Present in the country for over four decades, World Vision has developed initiatives focused on child protection, community development and strengthening the resilience of the most vulnerable families.
