Asked about the presence of cadres related to defence and security at the meeting, the advisor to the Head of State responded in the following terms. “Peace and security is one of the prerequisites for achieving” aspects related to development. So, sometimes, ”themes of this nature“ are addressed ”in meetings such as the one which happened today”. Manuel Mazuze further clarified that the matter in question was not much discussed, adding: “But these issues are part of the cooperation meetings.”
When asked whether, given the proximity between the two countries, terrorism was among the matters discussed, Mazuze replied that the issue was not an agenda item.
Mozambique currently chairs the SADC, and Botswana the SADC Troika that deals with cooperation in the areas of politics, defence and security.
