The Mozambican president, Filipe Nyusi, has reappointed Lúcia Ribeiro as president of the Constitutional Council (CC), according to a statement issued yesterday by the Presidency of the Republic.
“Lúcia Ribeiro’s reappointment to the position was made by the head of state, after the legally established period had elapsed,” the note states.
Lúcia Ribeiro has headed the Constitutional Council since 2009, a body she joined when it began operating in 2003.
In addition to monitoring constitutionality, the entity also functions as an electoral court, exercising the authority to validate and announce election results.
Mozambique holds general elections on October 9, which include presidential and legislative elections as well as those for provincial governors and provincial assemblies.
