President Filipe Nyusi has issued a message of greeting to the Mozambican Muslim community on the occasion of the beginning of Ramadan, considered one of the most sacred months of the year for Muslims, and its fast one of the pillars of Islam.
“On the occasion of the beginning, today, of this moment of sacrifice, I greet and encourage the Muslim community, particularly in my country, to celebrate the renewal of faith bearing in mind the values and principles that have always characterised Islam, such as the practice of solidarity, charity, honesty and fraternity. To the entire Muslim community with wishes of great faith and determination, I ask that you always keep in mind during this period of Ramadan the noble values of harmony and concord within the Mozambican family,” the message posted yesterday on the president’s Facebook page reads.
Cabo Delgado’s Governor Valige Tauabo also addressed a message “to all Muslim believers”.
“On the occasion of the month of Ramandan, an intensely spiritual period that serves to renew faith, practice acts of charity, promote values of kindness, forgiveness and tolerance, the Governor of the Province of Cabo Delgado, Valige Tauabo, addressed a message of greeting to all Muslim brothers,” reads a press release from the governor’s office.
Speaking to the media on Monday (11-03) the governor of Cabo Delgado said that, from the work carried out with the Muslim community, it was possible to clarify that the action of terrorists who have caused attacks on defenceless populations, the looting and destruction of public and private property, had no connection with the Muslim religion, because these acts are not in line with Muslim belief.
To the Muslim community, other religious denominations and all living forces in society, Governor Tauabo reiterated the call for vigilance and promotion of actions of peace, dialogue and solidarity.
