Mozambique: President Nyusi expected in Tanzania for 4-day visit

- President Nyusi, whose second constitutional term as President of Mozambique expires later this year, is coming to Tanzania following an invitation by Tanzanian President Samia Suluhu Hassan
Mozambique’s President Filipe Nyusi will embark on a four-day working and state visit to Tanzania from this Monday, July 1, to Thursday, July 4, seeking to boost diplomatic and trade relations between the two countries.
President Nyusi’s visit is also significant as he concludes his second presidential term, making it an opportunity to bid farewell to the Tanzanian people.
Speaking at a press conference in Dar es Salaam yesterday, Tanzania’s Minister for Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation, January Makamba, highlighted that the visit follows an invitation from President Samia Suluhu Hassan.
“President Filipe Nyusi will arrive tomorrow (Monday) at Julius Nyerere International Airport (JNIA), responding to President Samia’s invitation,” Makamba stated.
Upon arrival, President Nyusi will be received by various government officials. On July 2, he will be hosted at the State House in Dar es Salaam by President Samia for private discussions followed by media briefings and the signing of agreements in key sectors such as health, media, and education.
“The visit aims to strengthen economic ties, focusing on education, security, infrastructure, mining, oil, gas, and Mozambique’s significant offshore gas reserves,” Makamba emphasized.
Highlighting the current trade status, Makamba acknowledged the need for improvement. “Last year, trade with Mozambique totaled approximately 17 million US dollars, down from over 57 million US dollars the previous year.
Strengthening trade relations is a priority,” he added. President Nyusi will also inaugurate the 48th Dar es Salaam International Trade Fair (DITF) on July 3, underscoring its significance and enhancing bilateral economic engagements.
President Nyusi will proceed to Zanzibar for a private visit before returning to Mozambique via Abeid Karume Airport.
