The President of the Republic, Filipe Nyusi, held a working meeting in Maputo yesterday with the President of Renamo, Ossufo Momade, as part of the ongoing political dialogue in the country, Notícias reports.
A statement from the Presidency of the Republic, received by Noticias, states that, during the meeting, several issues of national interest were addressed, with emphasis on the Covid-19 pandemic, the measures taken for its prevention and the effectiveness in their implementation.
The developments surrounding the Disarmament, Demobilisation and Reintegration (DDR) process were also addressed,. The DDR stage and the need to speed it up were assessed.
On the attacks in the Central region of the country, Filipe Nyusi and Ossufo Momade discussed the measures to be pondered in order to overcome the problem with the necessary urgency.
The statement also said that insurgent attacks in the north of the country, especially in some districts in the province of Cabo Delgado, were also addressed at the meeting.
The implementation stage of the decentralisation process was also discussed..
“Regarding the DDR process, it was agreed that it should be resumed according to the previously approved road-map, taking into account all the preventative measures within the scope of COVID-19 widely disseminated by the government and health institutions. The meeting took place in an environment of harmony and cordiality, with both parties reinforcing their sense of mutual trust and welcoming the meeting, committing themselves to continue the dialogue on matters of national interest,” the statement said.
