The President of the Republic, Filipe Jacinto Nyusi, has addressed a message of condolences to Félix Tshisekedi, his counterpart in the Democratic Republic of Congo, for the loss of human life and destruction of homes in that country.
“I was deeply saddened to learn of the tragic loss of more than four dozen lives and the destruction of some 3,500 homes in the city of Uvira in South Kivu due to the torrential rains in the eastern Democratic Republic of Congo which have been occurring since April 12, 2020,” President Nyusi’s message reads.
The Mozambican statesman emphasises that “in this moment of consternation, I would like to address, on behalf of the people and Government of the Republic of Mozambique and myself, most heartfelt condolences to the Government and people of the DRC, and especially express our solidarity with the bereaved families, and wish the wounded a rapid recovery”.
