The President of the Republic, Filipe Jacinto Nyusi, has delivered 15 boats and an amount of fishing tackle to various fishing associations in Metuge district, Cabo Delgado.
Speaking at the hand-over, the Head of State said that fishing and aquaculture, as well as agriculture, were priorities in the current governance cycle, as they represent the safest way of raising income for the majority of the population.
“With this prioritisation, we intend to increase social well-being by improving nutritional levels in the context of promoting the well-being of the population and guaranteeing food security. With investment in these sectors, more jobs and more income are promoted for families for inclusive growth,” President Nyusi said.
The Head of State pointed out that Mozambique has 2,700 kilometres of coastline with a rich and abundant marine life, providing livelihoods for more than 60% of the Mozambicans living in the coastal zone. “We are about to augment the role that the fishing sector has in our country, by taking advantage of the potential that our coast offers,” he added.
