President Daniel Chapo participated this Sunday in Eid al-Fitr celebrations in the municipality of Matola, Maputo province. The event marking the end of the holy month of Ramadan brought together the faithful, religious leaders and authorities of the country for a moment of reflection and fellowship, reinforcing the spirit of unity and harmony among Mozambicans.
In his speech, the head of state congratulated the Muslim community, extending his wishes for a blessed celebration.
“We are here to wish Eid Mubarak to all Muslim brothers from Rovuma to Maputo and throughout the world,” President Chapo said, highlighting the importance of fasting not only as a spiritual exercise, but also as a benefit to physical health.
The head of state shared a reflection on the teachings he received from a Muslim brother about the meaning of fasting. “He told me that every human being should fast and explained it very simply: ‘President! Imagine a car that after being purchased has not had its oil changed, its filters changed, nothing changed. What will happen to the car?’” the President of the Republic recalled, emphasizing that fasting works as a way of purifying the body, just as maintaining a car prolongs its lifespan.
Sheikh Aminuddin Muhamad, president of the Islamic Council of Mozambique, welcomed the presence of the President of the Republic and emphasized the need for peace and stability for the country’s progress. “You can count on our votes too. We want peace, Mr. President. We want peace in the country, we are tired of conflict,” declared the sheikh, calling for harmony and reconciliation among all Mozambicans.
The religious leader stressed that national development depends directly on stability and peaceful coexistence among citizens. “God has entrusted this great task to you, Your Excellency the President. Therefore, we also ask Allah and invoke Him to give us strength in this important task of continuing and bringing the much-desired peace, development and progress to our country,” he concluded.
President Daniel Chapo’s participation in the celebration of Eid al-Fitr reflects his recognition and respect for the traditions and values of the Muslim community, promoting unity and harmonious coexistence in the country. During Ramadan, the Head of State made a point of participating in Iftar with the faithful, reinforcing his commitment to inter-religious dialogue and social inclusion.
Eid al-Fitr is a date of great significance for Muslims, symbolizing gratitude, sharing and the renewal of the values of fraternity and love for one’s neighbour. During the ceremony, participants highlighted the importance of solidarity and peace as fundamental pillars for strengthening Mozambican society.
The President of the Republic’s presence at the celebration comes one day after he addressed an official message of greeting to the Muslim community for the end of Ramadan. In the message, the head of state acknowledged the essential role of Muslims in building a more just, cohesive and supportive society, reiterating his government’s commitment to peace and inclusive development for all Mozambicans.
