Speaking from Maputo Central Hospital, (HCM), the country’s largest health unit, President Filipe Nyusi on Friday praised the commitment and dedication of Mozambique’s health professionals in preventing and combating Covid-19, and especially in the treatment of patients.
Filipe Nyusi’s message of comfort comes at a time when there are close to 400 health professionals still infected with the virus countrywide.
“We are totally attentive to what you are doing,” Filipe Nyusi stated, addressing health professionals from all over the country, as well as to “the difficulties that you are going through”.
President Nyusi went on to say that he was at the HCM to “to recognise [the health professionals’] role on behalf of the people” and their “dedication in very difficult times”.
“We have been” appealing to the population continuously, “to help the health system” address the pandemic, he said.
The president said that, with the daily increase in Covid-19 infections and hospitalisations, the administration may one day turn to “retired doctors” or those who work “in offices, to put on their uniforms and work again” [in the health sector], given that active professionals will at some point need to be replaced.
