Mozambique’s minister of Mineral Resources and Energy assesses that the implementation of pilot mining processing centres in Zambezia, Tete and Inhambane provinces are contributing to the evolution of production and export rates of gold, gems and precious metals.
Carlos Zacarias announced the assessment at the close of the sector’s Ninth Coordinating Council in Matibane administrative post, Mossuril district, last Friday.
The council was convened to evaluate the sector’s performance in the five-year period (2020-2024) and outline strategies for the new governance cycle.
Minister Zacarias also noted that the government had challenged itself to establish three commercial warehouses for diamonds, precious stones and gems in the provinces of Cabo-Delgado, Zambezia and Tete.
This initiative will improve the tracking of precious metals and gems, and help combat smuggling, money laundering and terrorist financing.
The Ninth Coordinating Council of the Ministry of Mineral Resources and Energy had as its motto “For a transformation and local use of Mineral and Energy Resources for the sustainable development of Mozambique”.
