Another 200,000 doses of vaccines against Covid-19 provided by Portugal to Mozambique arrive in Maputo on Saturday, bringing the total to 360,000 doses, the foreign ministry said on Friday.
The new batch comprises doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine and will be delivered by the Portuguese embassy to the Mozambican authorities.
This aid from Portugal to Mozambique is part of the Action Plan in the Health Response to the Covid-19 pandemic between Portugal and the Portuguese-speaking African Countries (PALOP) and East Timor.
The vaccines are carried by TAP under an institutional partnership agreement between the national carrier and Camões, Institute for Cooperation and Language.
Mozambique has had 1,929 Covid-19 deaths and 151,260 infected with the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus.
Covid-19 has caused at least 4,969,926 deaths worldwide, among more than 244.94 million infections by the new coronavirus recorded since the start of the pandemic, according to the latest balance sheet from Agence France-Presse.
