Portugal’s secretary of state for foreign affairs and cooperation, Francisco André, has said that the country’s 2022-2026 Strategic Cooperation Programme with Mozambique would focus on “stimulating” post-pandemic recovery, so giving expression to what he described as the countries’ “excellent bilateral relationship.
André made his comments on the priorities of the next framework cooperation agreement between Portugal and Mozambique in a statement read out to journalists after a meeting with Mozambique’s deputy minister of foreign affairs and cooperation, Manuel Gonçalves.
Relations between the two countries, André said, would include “fighting this Covid-19 pandemic and also the stimulus that will be needed to recover” from its impact.
André cited education, health, justice and human development as areas that would receive special attention in the 2022-2026 plan.
The programme is to be signed at a bilateral summit later this year, whose date and venue are yet to be determined, he added.
“We hope that [the summit] has concrete results, particularly results that are ambitious and of common interest to both countries,” the secretary of state said.
André arrived in Mozambique on Saturday for a four-day working visit.
