The spokesperson for the Mozambican Republic Police (PRM) in Maputo city, Daniel Macuácua, said there are leads on the four perpetrators involved in the kidnapping that occurred on Tuesday at around 6:15 a.m. on Avenida Zedequias Manganhela, in downtown Maputo, the capital. Cited by Domingo Online, Macuácua assured that the case could soon be clarified.
Multisectoral teams continue to work to rescue the victim, a 69-year-old Mozambican citizen. “We will not share further details so as not to jeopardise the ongoing investigation to clarify this case,” he said.
Describing how the incident occurred, Macuácua said that the victim was intercepted by four unidentified individuals travelling in a white Toyota Prado, and was threatened as he attempted to enter his business premises. The kidnappers were armed with AKM-type firearms and fired four shots to threaten and disperse nearby citizens who tried to help the victim.
According to Daniel Macuácua, the country has seen a period of calm regarding kidnappings over the past three months. However, the police continue to work to ensure that such incidents do not recur in the country, particularly in the city of Maputo.
