All officers of the Police of the Republic of Mozambique (PRM) have had their leave suspended, so that they can be available on various fronts to guarantee public order and safety during the upcoming festive season.
The decision was announced this week in Cabo Delgado by the commander-in-chief of the Police, Bernardino Rafael. Rafael explained that the corporation stands fully prepared to implement the security plan outlined for the Christmas and New Year festive season, for which the availability of personnel is essential.
“The holidays are suspended. We are all (police officers) summoned to work in the implementation of the operational security plan for the festive season. At the end of this period, we will return to the normal course of disciplinary leave,” he has determined.
The commander-in-chief is however perturbed by the deviant behaviour of some officers, considering it an inconvenience and a stain on the corporation’s image.
“There are things that police officers do that make me feel extremely ashamed. We do not want this to happen, neither during this festive period, nor at any other time. It is exhausting to hear that in place X or Y a colleague did this or that. I am totally embarrassed and do not know what to say to justify avoidable mistakes that should not be committed by a police officer. For this reason, I ask colleagues to improve their behaviour so as not to further embarrass society or stain the institution’ good name,” he urged.
