The Mozambican police are investigating an alleged new attack by insurgent groups believed to have occurred on Tuesday in the Niassa Special Reserve neighbouring Cabo Delgado, a source from the force said on Wednesday.
“We, as the provincial command of the PRM [Police of the Republic of Mozambique] of Niassa, were made aware of this incident, but we are on the ground in order to obtain more information about it,” said Nelson Carvalho, spokesperson for the PRM in Niassa, a neighbouring province of Cabo Delgado, a region hit by attacks by armed groups since 2017.
The Mariri hunting camp in the Niassa Special Reserve, which covers 42,000 sq/km in eight districts, some in Cabo Delgado, was allegedly invaded by armed men on Tuesday afternoon, Mozambican media reported on Wednesday.
